Shopian Encounter turns out fake, charge sheet says 3 civilians picked up by Indian Army, killed and planted weapons

The Shopian Encounter done in July this year which was greatly applauded by the nation including the ministers turned out to be fake. As per the charge sheet filed by Jammu & Kashmir Police, three civilians were picked up by Indian Army personnels, killed and were planted with weapons.

The sequence of events that has been pieced together by the investigators' details the chilling tale of the “staged” encounter. According to the charge sheet, Army captain Bhoopendra Singh alias Major Basheer Khan allegedly first abducted the youths with the help of his two accomplices.

They then killed them and planted illegally acquired weapons and material on their bodies. The trio was dubbed as “hard-core terrorists” by the Army captain. They were however later identified as Ibrar Ahmed (16), Imtiyaz Ahmed (25) and Ibrar Ahmed (20), all residents of Rajouri area of J&K.

As per the investigations on July 17, a night before the “encounter”, the Army officer met his two civilian accomplices Tabish Nazir Malik and Basheer Ahmed Lone at the Army camp in Reshnagri area. That day they arrived at the camp in a vehicle (JK22B3365) that belonged to Lone. The probe has also revealed that the Army officer was in touch with these two for quite some time.

Even after being charged with serious charges including murder, illegal conspiracy, disrupting the evidence, etc., the army officer is not yet arrested owing to the safeguard by AFSPA.
