Assam Governor suspends Dibrugarh University VC Prof Ranjit Tamuli

Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi suspends Vice Chancellor Prof Ranjit Tamuli over alleged financial irregularities and misuse of public funds in Dibrugarh University.

The Dibrugarh University Teachers’ Association had earlier submitted a petition on January 25, 2021 addressing the Governor of Assam raising a serious allegation against the VC and requested to conduct a high-level enquiry into the matter.

Apart from Dibrugarh University Teachers’ Association, there were three more petitions alleging VC Prof Ranjit Tamuli of being involved in financial irregularities and misconduct by misusing power and position.

The three other petitions were submitted by MLA Lahowal LAC Rituparna Baruah, President and GS of Dibrugarh University Officers’ Association and President and GS of Dibrugarh University Employees’ Association respectively on January 27, 2021.

Based on the above petitions Governor cum Chancellor, Dibrugarh University called for explanation from VC Prof Ranjit Tamuli.

On the other hand, the explanation received from VC was not found satisfactory and in order to ascertain the facts a Fact Finding Committee under the Chairmanship of Preetom Saikia, Commissioner and Secretary, Higher Education Department and Moloy Bora, Commissioner, Upper Assam Division as Member among others were constituted. They were assisted by Rajiv Sensua, Scientific Officer and Israphil Musahari, Scientific officer, Questioned Documents Division, Directorate of Forensic Science, Assam, Kahilipara, Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Prof. RNS Yadav has been handed over the charge temporarily.
