Assam pride, Dhing Express and Record Holder Sprinter Hima Das, appointed as the new Deputy Superintendent of Police, Assam on Friday.
Expressing her happiness and gratitude, Hima took to Twitter saying, “I am so happy that one of my biggest dreams came true today. I am proud to be the DSP, Assam Police. It’s an honour I will always wear with pride. I would like to thank CM Sarbananda Sonowal sir, Himanta Biswa Sarma sir, Kiren Rijiju sir for their constant support”.
In another tweet, Hima thanked her parents, coaches and fans.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted saying, “A proud day for Assam. Glad to ceremonially appoint ace athlete @HimaDas8 as Dy SP in @assampolice. An honour for her achievements under the Sports Policy, the appointment will further motivate youths to pursue excellence in sports.”
Meanwhile, ADGP L&O, Assam Police, GP Singh congratulated her and tweeted, “Assam pride, Dhing Express, Reocrd holder sprinter @HimaDas8 with senior officers. Welcome once again to police family. Congratulations on appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police in @assampolice @DGPAssamPolice.”
Born on 9 January 2000, Hima Das is an Indian sprinter from the state of Assam. She holds the current Indian national record in 400 metres with timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. She is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships.
She was also conferred with Arjuna Award by the President of India on 25 September 2018.
