Rihanna and Greta Thunberg draw international attention to farmers' protests in India

The ongoing protests of contentious agriculture laws to deregulate the farming sector gained some international momentum with Tweets from both Rihanna and climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Popstar Rihanna took to Twitter earlier on Tuesday saying, “why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest” and shared a news link condemning the internet shutdown aimed at interrupting the farmer movement.

The tweet has drawn mixed responses in India with few praising the singer while others chiding her.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg also comes in support of Pop Star Rihanna, tweets, “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India” and shared a similar article condemning the internet blockade in the border areas of Punjab and Delhi.

It is to be noted that internet access remained blocked Monday in several districts of a state bordering India's capital following violent weekend clashes between police and farmers protesting controversial agricultural reforms.
