Mizoram Apr 29: The Mizoram police has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe into the forest fire that has started on 24th April morning in the southern district called Lunglei. A case has also been filed in connection with the incident said by a senior police officer on Wednesday.
John Neihlaia, Mizoram Inspector of General Police said that a team under a Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Lunglei district has been formed on Tuesday to find the initial cause of wildfire as it is suspected to be a manmade disaster.
Adding more, Lunglei district Superintendent of Police (SP) Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng said that the team has already started an investigation but no one has been arrested so far. “The forest fire which broke out on Saturday has been contained with the help locals and after Indian Air force (AIF) launched a Bambi operation.” He added
According to the officials, the fire has spread nearly 70 areas in five districts since last week and is now more or less under control. No loss of human life or major injuries was reported so far, they said.
The Bambi operation was carried out at Phawngpui Tlang, the highest peak in Mizoram, located in the southernmost Lawngtlai district on Wednesday. The operation would continue depending on the fire condition.
The Deputy Commissioner of the Serchhip district – Kumar Abhishek said that the fire is more or less under control in his district after the air force carried out Bambi operations in the raging areas on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Though the forest fire damaged vast tracts of land in several places, the good news is that there is no loss of human life. Apart from the AIF, local volunteers have done commendable job to douse the fire,” he said.
H. Dolianbuaia, Deputy Commissioner of Hnahthial district said that the forest fire in the district is also under control and villagers are out of danger now.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also assured all possible help to Mizoram in tackling the forest fire and prayed for the well being of the people.
