Guwahati: In a tragic incident, Parag Bhuyan, Senior Correspondent of Pratidin Group and Local Reporter of Axomiya Khabar and Vice president of Tinsukia Press Club and the younger brother of Ex-Minister Jagadish Bhuyan was knocked down by a vehicle near his house on the NH-15, while he was walking on the highway in front of his house on Wednesday evening.
He later succumbed to his injuries at Aditya Nursing Home in Dibrugarh at around 9.50 am this morning.
Deceased journalist Parag Bhuyan is the son of late Chandradhar Bhuyan and was a resident of Kakopathar town in Tinsukia.
As per police report, the vehicle after causing the accident immediately fled away from the PO towards Dirak Side of Kakopathar PS near Assam- Arunachal Inter-State Border.
As the PO was near the Kakopathar PS, the PS staff immediately reached the spot.
The injured person was immediately taken in the PS vehicle to DC Bora Nursing Home in Rupai under Doomdooma PS.
As the condition of the injured person was critical, he was later taken to Aditya Nursing Home, Dibrugarh.
Upon verification of some local witnesses at the PO and after checking the CCTV camera at the PS, it was found that one Tata Xenon green tea leaf carrying vehicle might be involved in the accident. Moreover, though the complete registration no. of the vehicle could not be ascertained, it was found that the last digits of the vehicle registration no were likely to be 7881.
Immediately Naka checks by various PSs under SP Tinsukia were carried out in different locations in order to apprehend the fleeing vehicle till late last night. SSP of Changlang and Namsai districts were alerted immediately for assistance.
Today morning at around 8.30 am, information from a source was received that the vehicle committing the accident belongs to one person of Samaguri, Namsai under Arunachal Pradesh, Assam police stated in a press statement.
Accordingly, OC Kakopathar along with his staff immediately rushed to Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh and managed to apprehend the Tata Xenon vehicle bearing reg. no. as 23 bc 7881 along with its driver and helper and brought them to Namsai PS.
The driver was identified to be one James Murha, s/o Kamel Murha, 31 yrs, r/o Samaguri, PS & Dist. Namsai and the helper to be one Baba Bordoloi, 21 yrs, s/o Barun Bordoloi, r/o Rajagarh, PS. Doodooma.
During interrogation at Namsai PS, the driver admitted of committing the accident at P.O. due to negligence near the Kakopathar PS last night while returning after unloading the green tea leaves collected from various areas under Samaguri of Namsai in the Rezina Tea Industries located at Rupai under Doomdooma PS.
The driver further admitted that he and the helper fled from the po after committing the accident as they got afraid that public might assault them. The owner of the vehicle is Padma Ratan of Samaguri, Namsai, but her son namely Ape Ette is using the vehicle in his green tea leaf business. The vehicle is carrying green tea leaf everyday from Namsai to the Rezina Tea Industries in Rupai.
The vehicle is seized and both the driver and the helper were arrested in connection with the instant case.
