The Gauhati High Court to hear KMSS Leader Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea tomorrow at around 10.30 am in the case registered by National Investigation Agency (NIA) at the Chandmari police station.
Notably, all the arguments in favour of his bail have been placed before the court in the prior dates.
KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, who has been lodged in the Gauhati Central Jail for a year now under charges of UAPA.
It is pertinent to mention that the Gauhati High Court had been hearing the Gogoi's bail plea for a long time now.
Activist Akhil Gogoi was earlier granted bail by a special NIA court in one of the two cases being probed by the NIA in connection with his alleged role in the violent protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Assam last year.
Gogoi was granted bail after five days of hearing in the case, which was filed at the Chabua police station and later transferred to the NIA.
NIA special judge Pranjal Das granted bail to Gogoi on a surety of Rs 30,000 and routine conditions, including not tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses.
It may also be mentioned that the special court on August 7, 2020, had rejected his bail plea in the other case, which was registered at Chandmari police station. He then filed a petition challenging it in the Gauhati High Court.
Advocate Santanu Borthakur appeared for Gogoi while S.C. Kayal represented NIA as its standing counsel.
