Kolkata/Agartala/Guwahati: A new vista has begun in the maritime relation between India and Bangladesh with a cargo vessel being flagged off digitally from Kolkata Port by Union Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday in Delhi.
Tweeting on the development, Mandaviya said, "Historical day in maritime relations of India and Bangladesh. North-Eastern region of India is now connected by sea-ports of Bangladesh! Digitally flagged off the first trial movement of container ship from Kolkata port to Agartala and Assam via Chittagong port of Bangladesh". In a second tweet, Mandaviya said, "big breakthrough in the development and connectivity of North East India! New route will reduce time and logistics cost for cargo movement, it will increase economic activities, employment and will bring prosperity in India as well as Bangladesh".
On the new development on maritime affairs, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted: "it is really a big achievement for the entire NE including Tripura. On behalf of the people of Tripura, I convey sincere gratitude to our PM Narendra Modiji and Union Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviyaji for making this possible during the COVID-19 pandemic".
