Digboi: The Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) Digboi Unit formed the human chain this morning demanding proper treatment and unconditional release of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi and other members.
On Tuesday, several protesters formed a human chain and submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional officer of Margherita through Digboi police station officer-in-charge Nikunja Barman.
The protest was joined by several other Akhil Gogoi supporters and well-wishers from the Digboi Township.
As per media reports, Gogoi is unwell since the 2nd of July. Moreover, Gogoi himself stated about his health condition while he was presented before the court through video conferencing earlier on Monday. He complained of fever, cough and headache - all COVID-19 symptoms - and expressed worry about being infected by coronavirus. Gogoi also informed the court about student leader Bitu Sonowal’s deteriorating health. This has raised eyebrows not just among his well-wishers but also among the political fraternity.
On the other hand, Citing the COVID pandemic as an excuse, the Central Jail administration has prevented Akhil Gogoi’s family and well-wishers from meeting him for the last 3 months. Even his wife’s request to meet him in jail was denied.
