Manipur ADGP (Law & Order) Arvind Kumar Shoots Himself In Office, Condition Stable

Imphal: In a shocking incident, Manipur ADGP (law & order) Arvind Kumar shot himself at the state police headquarters on Saturday. He is seriously injured and has been rushed to Raj Medicty Hospital in Imphal.

The news has been later confirmed by Imphal West SP K Meghachandra Singh, who is also present in the hospital at the moment.

Kumar is a 1992-batch IPS officer of Manipur cadre. Previously he was with IB as Joint Director.

The reason of the drastic step is not yet known.

Additional director general of police (law and order) Arvind Kumar has allegedly shot himself with his service gun at his official quarter at 2nd Manipur Rifles complex, here on Saturday.

The incident took place on Saturday at around 1 pm. He was taken to Raj Medicity Hospital.

"His condition is stable; he is conscious and able to respond when asked to move his limbs. A small surgery was being taken at the hospital and I hoped that he will be stabilised. We will try to shift him to Delhi," chief secretary Dr J. Suresh Babu who visited the hospital said.

He said the officer is lucky that he was conscious. The bullet has gone from the base of the face and  passed out at the face without much damage. "We have to wait and watch," he said.

Responding to reporters the chief secretary said he had no idea about the cause of the incident. "We are at present focused more on saving him," he said.

"He is a very good officer. He came from IB after a long time. Recently he has been posted as ADGP (law and order). The incident is very unfortunate and we don't know what the background is," he added.

He must have come here for about 4/5 months back, the chief secretary said.
