Shillong: Due to spurge in COVID-19 positive cases in Meghalaya, the State Government on Saturday announced a complete lockdown on Monday and Tuesday in Shillong city.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the lockdown will be used to trace contacts of the positive cases reported in Shillong. He also urged Citizens to cooperate fully.
During this period, the Shillong City and the surrounding areas shall be under curfew till 6 am of 15th of July, 2020.
This time shall be productively used by the Community COVID Management Committees and the newly set up Behaviour Change Management Committees of various localities to inculcate awareness about the cardinal principles of Behaviour Change at the household level.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong in an order issued on 11th July, 2020 has informed that listed additional wine shops in East Khasi Hills District will open each week from Monday to Saturday between 10:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. with effect from 13th July, 2020 until further orders.
In the order, the Deputy Commissioner (Excise) laid down strict conditions that sale of liquor shall not exceed three litres of foreign liquor or wine and four litres of beer, per customer, the owners of the wine stores will utilize their own staff and they should personally be responsible to ensure social distancing of at least six feet is maintained between customers, respiratory etiquette and to strictly follow all directives and advisories issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department with reference to COVID-19 situation.
