Guwahati: The Guwahati Wildlife Division DFO in a notification directed the dwellers at Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary to vacate the residences illegally occupied in Forest lands within 15 days after the notification is issued.
The notification issued on May 8, 2020, clearly stated that the Guwahati Wildlife Division will seize the properties and other belongings of the dwellers who had illegally occupied forest lands if they fail to vacate the land within the deadline.
The order refers to section 27 (3) and 29 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Sources informed that a group of 12 persons on Saturday visited Boro and Garo Basti at the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary and distributed the pamphlets in 15 houses. They also clicked photographs of the dwellers and orally warned them to vacate their residences in order to avoid the forceful eviction drive.
It is to be noted that as per the MHA guidelines, the citizens are asked to stay indoors to prevent the spread of Covid-19, but at the same time, State Government has issued such notice where many families in the forest lands will be homeless overnight.
