APCC lodges FIR against Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati

Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) files FIR against State Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his remark on social media where he allegedly claimed that at Silchar Airport some persons shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ while welcoming AIUDF supremo Maulana Badruddin Ajmal last Saturday.

The FIR was lodged at Bhangagarh Police Station in Guwahati.

In the FIR copy, Ranjan Bora, General Secretary, on behalf of the APCC, said, “The accused person made certain remarks on social media with an intention to create religious tension between two communities of the state through a misleading statement and false Facebook post. He claimed that at Silchar Airport some persons shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ while welcoming a political leader. Subsequently, the said Facebook post was flagged by the Facebook authorities as the third-party fact-checkers found the content of the post to be false and fake. The said accused person has a habit of making communally sensitive remarks and in the present case, he has made such remarks with an intention to promote enmity between different communities which has the potential to create disharmony between different groups. The accused person by uttering those false statements has committed offence under Section 153(A) of the Indian Penal Code.”

Notably, APCC in the above letter referred Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the accused person.

GS Bora also urged Bhangagarh Police to arrest Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma under section 153(A) of the IPC and also under section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
