Bad quality street lights in Guwahati ? Here’s how GMC will get citizens’ job done

Guwahati: Reacting to a news item which was published in an English Daily on 01/11/2020 over non-functioning of street lights in the Silpukhuri areas of the city, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation claimed that the State run organization has been trying to provide the services like street lights etc to the citizens of the city on a priority basis.

However, sometimes many street lights remain non functional due to damage of Cables by APWD during road construction, Jal board for digging of road for laying of water pipes, damage of electrical poles due to road accident, GMC stated in a press statement.

The press statement further stated that GMC has taken the matter into consideration and have taken some major decisions in this regard. They are:

• Tender has already been floated for repairing and maintenance of street lights of the main road.
• Estimate for repairing and maintenances of Street lights of lames and bylanes is being prepared and tender will be floated soon.
• To speed up the maintenance process, GMC is procuring vehicle mounted hydraulically operated ladders. Supply order for one such ladder has already been placed and more such vehicles will be procured soon.
• GMC is constantly responding to public complains reported through helpline no’s and control room.
