Excise sleuths seize Arunachali liqour worth Rs 35 lakh in Mangaldai


Guwahati: On basis of secret inputs, a team of Excise Intelligence Bureau today conducted a chasing operation with the help of Mangaldai Police to detain two 10 wheeler container vehicles near NRL Petrol Pump in Mangaldai on Thursday.

These vehicles entering through the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border were involved in the illegal transport of Arunchali liquor of 2,400 cases amounting to Rs.35 lakhs in total in the Assam market.

The team of EIB chased down these vehicles bearing registration numbers NL-01 L-6374 & RJ-52G A-1305(this vehicle being blacklisted by various RTOs in different states) after a long run of 4 hours with the help of Mangaldai Police amidst the lockdown. It is to be noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs on one of its latest guidelines had issued complete & strict restrictions on the sale of liquor nationwide.

State Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidiya has expressed gratitude towards the joint operational team on this major success of the crackdown of illegal liquor.

Alak Dutta, General Secretary of All Assam Liquor Trade Association has thanked the whole team for this major breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Sailendra Pandey, PRO to State Excise Minister has thanked Mangaldai Police for the support & cooperation and has informed that Commissioner of Excise has directed the officials under the Provisions of Assam Excise Act to take stringent action against the persons who have been apprehended & who are connected to this illegal trade.
