DGP Mahanta thanks Himanta for dedicating one wing of Khanapara (CCC) for COVID police personnel
Guwahati: The Assam Director-General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Monday has informed that a total of 220 cases of COVID-19 positive have been detected among the police personnel of different districts/battalions/organisations till July 5, 2020.
Addressing a press conference at the Police Headquarter, Guwahati, DGP Mahanta said, “Assam police has evolved the system of following up of each positive case by way of individually taking to them and finding out the well being and other details of the person. Our dedicated team also finds out well being of respective family of COVID positive police personnel.”
DGP Mahanta also thanked Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his proactive encouragement of the police personnel on field and also by way of telephonic contact on every aspect of policing during the trying time.
Mahanta also thanked State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for dedicating one wing of Khanapara COVID care centre for exclusive use of COVID police personnel.
He informed that Assam police has prepared 26 bedded sophisticated accommodation along with Medical paraphernalia at Dergaon. “Another COVID care centre of high quality is in final stage for service at 16th AP (IR) Bn. at Bormonipur. We have nearly hundred quarantine centre dedicated to police in different parts of the state. Around 22 numbers of police doctors and 250 nursing staff have been trained to handle police patients,” added Mahanta.
Furthermore, Mahanta stated Assam police has been accepting the challenge with grace like the people of Assam are doing. “Police personnel becoming COVID positive patients is no way deterring Assam police in its service delivery, anti-insurgency operations Crime Control and general helping hand for the people in distress. Our continued operation during the COVID period against anti-national aliments, illicit arms, drugs etc are going on unabated and startling success have been achieved during last three months. Police has also played a major role in enforcing the lockdown norms during this period,” he added further.
